Visual Imagery - Sandy tangles

Here is another guided visual imagery that I hope all of you enjoy. It mixes the beach and Zentangle® together. It's been festering in my mind since one day I had posted a comment that I would love to be on a deserted beach and a friend replied back that I would want my Zentangle stuff with me. I laughed and said, "No. I wouldn't need it..."

Get yourself in a comfortable position and take a few deep breaths. Relax your shoulders and take a few more deep breaths, notice any place that is tense and consciously relax the muscles and take a few more deep breaths. Close your eyes for a moment and imagine that you are on a beach by yourself. Feel the sea breeze pass over your face and the salty smell it carries with it. Hear the hum of the wind as it sweeps across your ears. Let the breeze wrap around you like a blanket, helping you to feel lighter, more relaxed. Hear the sounds of the waves gently lapping the shore. Feel the sun warming your body on this beautiful day; your toes in the warm, damp sand; the sun glistening of the waves.

The tide is out and has left a great area to be able to create on. Walk straight ahead, one foot in front of the other, creating a line. When it is to the size you want, stop and pivot 90 degrees to your right. Again walk the same length, one foot in front of the other. Stop and pivot 90 degrees to your right and walk the same length as the first line. Stop and pivot 90 degrees one more time and walk one foot in front of the other back to the original line. You now have a complete square.

Walk around the square looking at it from different angles. Let your thoughts go... Visualize one of your favorite tangles. Using only your body ask your self how you can create this tangle. Maybe you will want to use your hand to create the outline of the tangle, your fingers to give texture, overlapping your footprints to create the repetitive patterns, your arm or leg to create a sweeping motion? Stay here for awhile allowing yourself the freedom to create your tangles with your body. Feel at one with the tangle. Why is it your favorite? Does it have lots of curves or lots of straight ridges? What do these feel like to you as you are creating them? Watch the sand move and transform as your skin comes into contact with it. How does it feel? Does it have a scent to it? Can you hear the sound it makes as it transforms under your skin?  Really experience it.

When you have finished creating your Zentangle in the sand look at it from different angles. How does it look seeing it from the ground perspective? From a standing perspective? Let's take to the air and view it from above. Extend your arms out and feel the wind gently lifting you from the sand. Allow the wind to take you as high as you feel comfortable. How does it look? Float all around it and look at it from different angles. What does it say to you? Take your time.

When you are ready to come down, allow the wind to gently place your feet back on the ground. Allow yourself to smile at the unique beauty you have created. The tide is coming back in. Stand in front of your Zentangle so it and the water is in front of you. Close your eyes. Take a few deep breaths. When you are ready... welcome back.
